Though it may only be the beginning of March, we are not immune to the early excitement of spring and NeoCon 2020. Our feelings this year are heightened by an office furniture feature in Work Design Magazine that combines a modular table, collaborative furniture, modern work attitudes, and biophilic design into one beautiful and functional piece.
The smart seamless table with mounted leaf lamp will be featured at this year’s NeoCon in Chicago, but before the conference begins, we want to talk about what these design elements mean for your modern office.
Modular Furniture
Forget what you think you know about modular furniture. Let’s talk about what you need to know about modular office furniture.
In the modern workplace, modular desks and tables offer undeniable features particularly for commuters or employees that spend a reduced amount of time in the workplace. Use minimalist workstations in your design layout to increase communication, but remain aware of noise issues that may hinder productivity. Install buffers such as acoustic ceiling tiles when necessary.
When new design actually emulates the trunk of a tree, we are going a step further in our efforts to produce a feeling of vitality and awareness. The trunk itself reminds us of the very nature of the furniture we are using.
In the case of Green Furniture Concept’s seamless table and mounted leaf lamp design, its modular table is mounted to the trunk of an acoustic tree which is the perfect solution for the modern workplace environment.
Biophilia
Natural elements in the office improve blood flow, heart rate, and stress levels. Because promoting employee wellbeing is a competitive advantage for employers, bringing the outdoors into the office is a key component to employee retention and the reduction of absenteeism. Employees report feeling rejuvenated and energized in biophilic spaces, and they’re inspired by the feel-good reaction that plant life, natural lighting, and other natural elements present.

Your employees want and expect features that accommodate them. It’s the hallmark of human-centered design.
Collaborative Spaces at NeoCon
Given the option, studies show that employees gravitate towards a collaborative meeting arrangement. This can be somewhere they are able to work comfortably but also hold brainstorming sessions with other employees or coordinate quick check-ins. These spaces can act as both a singular employee’s workstation, as well as a place for the entire organization to come together; solving two problems in one.
Ergonomics
Green Furniture Solution’s modular table is height adjustable—meaning it’s ergonomic. Adjustable height desks and chairs are the tools our bodies need to stay healthy on the job.
Whether we are sitting down or standing up, doing it with biomechanical stability is a key to employee satisfaction. Your employees want and expect features that accommodate them. It’s the hallmark of human-centered design.
Flexibility
Commercial space requires robust flexibility. What works in the corporate reception area should also work in the mall, airport, or highrise lobby. Because what is taking up room in those places is exactly the same—people. A seamless modular table where you can “meet under a tree” has a universal allure that would work in almost any place people gather.
When a design is multifunctional and multipurpose, it inherently provides a more just and authentic place to work, create, and congregate. We are excited to see where this trend continues to take hold, especially in modern office design. We hope to see you at NeoCon!
